Research Interests

  • Understanding the molecular mechanisms that contribute to more fatigue resistance or larger muscle (muscle hypertrophy) in response to exercise. Specifically, I am interested in the role of AMP-activated kinase (AMPK), peroxisome proliferative activated receptor (PPAR), gamma coactivator (PGC)-1α, and skeletal muscle prevalent PPAR isoform -delta on inducing mitochondrial biogenesis and increasing enzymes important for fatty acid metabolism. Tapping into these molecular targets to change the muscle phenotype can allow benefits for metabolic syndrome and sports performance. I am interested in manipulating the muscle by altering the exercise prescription (FIT), nutritional strategies, and pharmaceutical compounds. By identifying the mechanisms, we can maximize the physiological benefits gained from exercise training.

Research Interest Summary

Maximizing physiological benefits gained from exercise training by understanding the mechanisms behind the concurrent training effect.
